: I Have a promblem and need some opinions on what I should do..here it is. During high school swim season my coach will not allow me to dive with my club...he says that I am not being a team member, if I dive with the club, even though there is no such thing as a team member on my swim team. I even had a meeting with my coach to talk to him about this, and he admitted that he can't help me, but still will not let me dive club. I am pretty much fed up with our swim program, most the swimmers are jerks and tell me all I do is jump on the board; which is a bunch of crap cause I am the only one that excelled on to the state meet. and still I get no respect from the swimmers or the coach, then they tell me I can't club dive to better myself, which in turn would benefit the team. Right now I am deciding whether to not do high school diving and just club, or give in and dive for the school again without getting any good training. If you would please respond to this and give me your opinions I would appreciate it...thanks
Many years ago (and I won't say how many) I was a diver on a swim team. The HS coach didn't teach diving (thankfully) and I received caoching from a club coach who was great.
Yes, I went to meets and participated but I can tell you I never really felt I was a member of the team. I guess it it had to do with swimmers and divers having two different goals. Being on the team doesn't mean truly being accepted as a member of the team.
Diving is about you. You will remember what you have done and what you have accomplished. It is an individual sport.... not a team sport. If you do well then you can contribute to the team ... if they want you.
So the choice is what benefits you the most... club or swim team... which seems to the choice given you. Choose the path which benefits you the most. It is your talent, your work and, if you are very good (or become very good) you will benefit after high school.
Make a decision... and don't look back.
