HIGHLIGHTS
Day One:
The largest Team turnout at the Amsterdam Cup with 26 teams
participating and 175 divers from all over Europe and the US. Despite travelling a great distance and staring their warm-ups at
3:00 a.m.US time, the American athletes were sharp,
alert and ready to perform! The new pool in Amsterdam, only 8 weeks old, is a wonderful facility with 4 pools and a diving
well with a fantastic indoor tower.
DAY
ONE HIGHLIGHTS
On the first day
of competition the Americans exceeded their expectations by
coming form behind and performing their dives in ways they
never believed could be completed with the small amount of
preparation and sleep they had . The top dive of the day
was performed by Trisha Tumlinson. She performed a 105B for
straight 8s followed by 7.5 and 8s reverse two
and a half tuck.!!! Superb diving!! The younger divers on
the All-star team came through as well, achieving a 1st on
Group C girls tower (Emily Huth), 2nd and 3rd
on Group C boys tower (JJ Kinzbach and Harry Jones), Group
A girls 3M 1st and 3rd (Trisha Tumlinson,
and Shaina Meland), Group A boys 1st and 2nd
(Adam Peterson and Sal Vilardo), and Womens Open 3M
another 1st by Trisha Tumlinson,
It was quite exciting
to see the Polish Olympian, perform in the completion winning
the Mens Open event. The calibre of the competition
was of the highest quality and gave our athletes a taste of
what international competition is all about.
During
their off periods from the events, the divers all took side
trips into downtown Amsterdam
and were awed by its history and incredible architecture.
They especially enjoyed the performers at town square and
the Wax Museum. They quickly made bets as to who would be
carried off by the pigeons they decided to befriend, but we
made it back to home base without losing any divers. This
was accomplished despite Eric Elliot leading the way. Just
ask the divers who followed him to the hotel on the first
night. A ten minute trip that turned into 3 hours!!!
DAY TWO AND
THE HIGHLIGHTS
Early Day 2 dawned
to bring the Team even more trophies. These trophies
are intricately etched with a diver. Truly an award
the athletes will forever treasure!!

to capture first place.

Tessa den Oudsten of the Netherlands captured 1st
place over Marie Damborska/Dora Buresova of the Czech Republic.
