Diving Canada
is pleased to announce that because of its ability
to secure special junior development funding from Sport
Canada, ten young divers will be able to attend the upcoming
World Cup in Athens. The World Cup represents the final
qualification event for countries trying to qualify positions
for the 2004 summer Olympics. It is expected that the best
of the best will be competing at the World Cup. "The chance
to witness workouts and competition performances of the
world's best divers in the Olympic pool is an opportunity
of a lifetime for our best age group divers. Their understanding,
approach and commitment to the sport will be profoundly
affected.", said Mitch Geller
in announcing the divers and coaches who will attend. Selection
of the divers below was made, up to a maximum of 12 divers,
based on those who are currently age group eligible and who
have shown the greatest potential to make a future national
senior team. Those who were invited include:

Up to four coaches will accompany the divers selected from those working with
the above mentioned athletes. This investment in the future of Canadian diving
is part of a new junior program made possible by Diving Canada's lobbying efforts
of Sport Canada. Another important element in the two year program designed to
develop the next generation of major Games team members for Canada will be the
development of a club support program similar in design to the program we have
for the senior high-performance program. An announcement on which clubs will
be invited to participate in the junior development program will be announced
later in February. For more information on Diving Canada's investment in junior
development, contact Mitch Geller or Tim
Page through the national office.
