Velma Dunn Ploessel, a platform diver who won a silver medal at the 1936 Olympics and went on to teach physical education in the Los Angeles Unified School District for nearly 40 years, has died. She was 88.

Two divers, Jordan Weber (St. Petersburg, Fla./Northeast) and Haley Holmquist (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Glades), complete Kraus' recruiting class. Weber is the Northeast High School record holder in the one-meter event. She placed fifth at the Florida State High School Class 2A Championships.

GREGORY-PORTLAND - The Gregory-Portland school district has settled a discrimination lawsuit with the parents of a state champion diver. As part of the settlement, the parents got nearly $120,000 for legal fees, but they said they wanted fair play, not a payday.
